About Us
Smiley Oh Smiley
Who We Are: Smiley Oh Smiley is a non-profit organization that educates the youth, teens and adults on how to maintain and conduct proper oral hygiene. Smiley Oh Smiley travels to various schools and centers to set up several stations ensuring everyone leaves with more knowledge of dentistry in a fun and interactive way.
Who We Serve: Smiley Oh Smiley serves over 500 children, youth and adults every year in communities where oral health disparities occur.
What We Do: Smiley Oh Smiley provides free oral health events where participants are actively engaged in learning how to properly conduct and maintain good oral hygiene. Stations are set up for participants according to their age. The event lasts 1 hour long and everyone receives a goody bag with a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and mouthwash.
Smiley Oh Smiley was founded by former pre-dental student Tamera Thomas who served as the president of the Undergraduate Student National Dental Association (USNDA). Tamera was inspired by her colleagues who expressed that they lack community service hours and took it upon herself to start something that can benefit not only those who express interest in the dental field, but the community too. Smiley Oh Smiley's inaugural event was held on November 15, 2019, and continues to impact the Community.
The story behind the Smiley Oh Smiley brand dates back to 2007 when a childhood friend's mom dubbed Tamera, Smiley. According to Ms. Jasmine, "I never saw Tamera without a smile and before I knew her name I would refer to her as Smiley and it stuck. From that point, everyone, peers, parents, principals, and teachers called her Smiley.
Tamera is currently a third-year dental student at Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry. She serves as the Community Service Chair for the graduating class of 2025 and she continues to host oral health events across the country.
